The Department of African and African American Studies awards a certificate to all students who, in addition to meeting the requirements for a major, complete 18 credits in the Black Diaspora Studies minor. This minor is designed for students who want to develop a general understanding of the comparative development patterns of peoples of African descent in North America, South America, the Caribbean, and in Africa. Courses included in the curriculum of the Black Diaspora Studies minor may be used to fulfill requirements for both the minor and basic graduation requirements simultaneously.

Select 6-9 credits from the African and Afro-American Studies
minors according to the interest of the student and with the
approval of the University African and African American Studies
Committee, including at least one 400-level course (Sem: 5-8)
Students may select a course from a related area with the approval
of the University African and African American Studies Program
Committee (0-3) (Sem: 1-7)
