The courses are designated according to a particular pattern for identification on the student's transcript and in the Schedule of Classes. Song Writing (3) This course will take the student through the process of composing and producing a recorded song. Topics covered in addition to music composition will include form, lyric writing, arranging, audio recording and sequencing. Familiarity with basic audio sequencing software and music theory concepts is important. Permission of program required.

The Music of Alban Berg (2-3) This course will examine the music of Alban Berg with special emphasis on his operas Wozzeck and Lulu. The course will focus on Berg's pitch and rhythmic techniques and how they serve to articulate the symbolic, expressive, and formal aspects of his music. It will also look at his penchant for incorporating autobiographical elements into his compositions.
