ARCH 417 The Language of Boundaries in Architecture and the Landscape (3) This course examines the development and significance of boundaries in the construction of human space and time. Students who have taken other courses from Architecture Visual Arts, Geography, or Philosophy that treat some aspect of spatial perception, conception, construction, or visualiation, or who have completed equivalent study independently, may enroll with the permission of the program.

ARCH 441 Architectural Design Analysis (3) Studies in principles and elements of design; planning for human use; the relationship of space to physical and social environment. Architectural Engineering majors only.

Teams will be cross disciplinary in nature and consider all aspects of the design, creation, fabrication, and marketing of products with embedded intelligence.

ARCH 497D Furniture Design-Build: Using Reclaimed Material (1-3) An intensive studio/shop based course in which students will design and build furniture using exculsively reclaimed material. Advanced construction and design experience required. The semester will consist of two eight-week projects. The first, to renovate, repair and transform an existing piece of furniture. The second, to design and build a new piece of furniture using exclusively reclaimed material.

ARCH 497E Architecture and the Power of Display - The Learning Factory Project Phase 2 (3) Graduate students in this course will take key/advanced positions in disciplinary teams (graphics, A/V, Furniture design) working on the design of PSU's Learning Factory Exhibition. This class will continue to develop the design the exhibition, and move towards producing full-scale mock-ups. Graduate students will have the opportunity to receive training in advanced production techniques--welding, milling, etc.
