Culture and World Politics (3) Role of culture in world politics.
PL SC (AAA S) 459 Culture and World Politics (3)
course examines the role of culture in world politics through an analysis of
the varying dimensions of culture and their respective impact on the likelihood
of cooperation and conflict among the state and non-state actors in the global
system. Specifically, we examine the impact of culture in terms of social
boundaries, political associations and the likelihood of an emergent global
culture defined largely in terms of customs and practices related to
international trade and economic production. We also examine the role of
culture as a mechanism for the dissemination and maintenance of patterns of
hierarchy. Integrating these different conceptions of culture, we examine the
relationship between culture and foreign policy in the US.
